Recently, I went to the 100th Anniversary celebration of my elementary school, Queen Alexandra, in Vancouver’s east side.. I wasn’t there 100 years ago, but I was there during the late 50’s and early 60’s.
The place didn’t look all that different although the ceilings were a lot lower than I remember them. It brought back a lot of memories and I had had a chance to meet some people I hadn’t seen for a long time.
I found it difficult to explain what I had been doing since I last saw them, who I was and who I had become. I’ve made lot of twists and turns in my life and trying to explain what I had accomplished – or not accomplished… Well there just wasn’t time to do that in a few minutes of chit-chat.
Maybe it was difficult because I hadn’t sorted it out myself, so how could I explain in just a few minutes what I have been up to for the last 40 or so years. Maybe I don’t even want to know and will be happier leaving my past a fuzzy blur. On the other hand, maybe I can pull together the various threads that make up my life into a tapestry of some kind.
I hope you will get a chuckle and occasional ‘aha!’ from my ramblings as I try to sort out the various directions, misdirections, and tangents that my life has taken.
